The Music Industry in Perspective

This course focuses on the academic perspectives of the music sector and the music industry. Here, students will examine the actors, factors and conditions that shape the music landscape. They will explore different sectors of the music industry that could align with their interests and skills, learn the basics of music management and discuss issues related to careers and professional development. Through presentations and group work they will also gain an insight on the complexity of the music sector, its ongoing developments and the challenges it faces. 

Who it's for, tuition fee, applications, prerequisites, and credits

The course is for those who want to understand the how the music ecosystem is built and its interconnected components, understand different aspects of music management and know about different opportunities for creative/ music careers.

A matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) or equivalent education is required, e.g. from Bifröst University's Háskólagátt (University Gateway).

The course provides 5 ECTS credits at the undergraduate level.

The course is also a part of a micro-credential/degree in Music Business  

Format

The course is taught as periodic distance learning. Instruction begins on February 22, 2027 and runs until March 26, 2027.
