Microcredentials - 12 ECTS - Taught in English
The goal of the Microcredential in Music Business is to give students insight into the ever-changing and expanding environment of the music industry and to strengthen their ability to take advantage of the many opportunities it offers. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills that are useful in professional, cultural, and creative fields.
Through a mix of theory, hands-on exercises, and case studies, students will gain an understanding of the working environment of the music industry and acquire essential skills related to marketing, management, and strategy within the music sector.
The micro-program is developed in collaboration with the Iceland University of the Arts, with support from the University Collaboration Initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education.
ECTS Credits and Workload
The program is taught in English, carries 12 ECTS credits, and consists of three online courses completed within one semester.
Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf), preparatory studies for university, or an equivalent educational background.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will possess the necessary skills to become active participants in the music industry. This includes understanding the structure and operations of the industry on both a national and international level. Students will also gain knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of key professionals within the industry, as well as understand the impact of digital technology and social media on marketing, distribution, and career development for artists.
Students will learn key concepts and ideas related to the music business. They will be able to apply both theoretical and practical knowledge in real-world tasks such as contract negotiation, marketing campaigns, and music project management. In addition, they will develop skills in designing and producing digital marketing and promotional materials for artists and projects.
Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of individual and group assignments, active participation, and practical exercises that reflect real working environments in the music industry. Students complete both academic and applied projects related to marketing, management, and strategic development within the field.
Tuition Fee: 150.000 kr.
Most labor unions reimburse part of the tuition fee for their members.

The micro-credential is taught in three online modules during the spring semester of 2026:
- 5 January to 6 February 2026: The Music Industry in Practice
- 9 February to 20 February 2026: The Music Industry: Digital marketing and Brand Strategy
- 23 February to 27 March 2026: The Music Industry in Perspective

Upon Completion
Students who complete the program receive an official confirmation of completion specifying the number of ECTS credits earned. A transcript of records is also provided, outlining the structure and content of the micro-program.
This study path does not lead to a degree. Students who complete individual courses for ECTS credits receive a transcript for each completed course.
