Accommodation:

From the private market, there are no dormitories. The most common way is to rent an apartment from VOAS (Student Housing Foundation in Vaasa). www.voas.fi

 

Useful information:

  • Vaasa is a port city on the west coast of Finland which hosts several sights, museums and galleries; Vaasa has status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • The university has a buddy system which means that every student has its own tutor; There is a student union that organises events and parties also in cooperation with the International Office; Students usually wear their faculty specific overalls when participating in events
  • The costs of living are around 650€ per month with a rent between 200€ and 370€
  • The city has several bars and is hosting several musical events throughout the year; You can also enjoy live music and dancing on a wooden ship in the excellent atmosphere of the harbour
  • Vaasa offers many restaurants with different cuisines but also a lot of restaurants where you can eat traditional local and Finnish food; Coffee houses and other places to enjoy some good Finnish coffee are also available
  • You have a variety of excellent shopping facilities and unique boutiques
  • There are frequent buses to Helsinki which grant a student discount; Vaasa does also have an airport and during the summertime you can take a ferry to Umeå, Sweden
  • There are all sorts of activities available in summer and also in wintertime – hiking, cycling, bowling, fishing, canoeing, skiing or snowmobile safaris; Vaasa does also have an amusement park
