Micro-credentials

Micro-credentials are short, university-level programmes of study. What distinguishes micro-credentials is that they are assessed and awarded on the basis of ECTS credits, meaning they meet all the quality standards required of higher education in terms of learning outcomes, skills and knowledge.

At Bifröst University, micro-credentials are delivered entirely online, making them particularly well suited to those who are working or pursuing other studies alongside their education.

Micro-credentials can:
  • Count towards a bachelor's or master's degree
  • Support admission to postgraduate study
  • Be completed alongside work or other commitments
  • Provide recognised university-level credits
Why Choose a Micro-credential?

Micro-credentials have grown rapidly across Europe in recent years, driven by increasing demand from both employers and individuals for skills development and lifelong learning opportunities through shorter educational pathways.

They are designed to provide greater flexibility in higher education and offer new opportunities for:
  • Professionals seeking to update their skills
  • Individuals considering a return to higher education
  • Learners exploring a new academic field
  • Those who may not currently meet traditional university entry requirements
  • Preparing for the Future of Work
The labour market is changing rapidly:

It is estimated that half of today’s jobs will change significantly or disappear in the coming years.
Around 65% of pupils currently in primary education will eventually work in occupations that do not yet exist.
Forecasts suggest that one-third of the skills that are highly sought after today could become almost obsolete within just three years.

Micro-credentials provide a flexible way to develop new skills, stay current in a changing workplace and prepare for future career opportunities.
