Aim and content:
This is an short and informal course designed to familiarize exchange students with the very basics of the Icelandic language and Icelandic history and culture. No background in Icelandic studies is assumed.
Students should command the essentials of the Icelandic sound and spelling systems.
Students should know some very basic phrases and vocabulary items that are of use in everyday life, as well as the most basic facts about how the nominal and verbal systems work.
Students should be familiar with a few key themes from Icelandic history and current events, and should be able to discuss them and explain their importance.
