The rector's address touched on the role of universities and science as shared public goods. "Science must serve society — promoting prosperity, progress, and welfare. The strength of academia lies in that balance between freedom and responsibility." She also spoke passionately about access to education. "Education enables us to evaluate information, identify misinformation, and make informed decisions. It drives economic development and innovation. But it is also a matter of justice — because when access is limited or unequal, inequality grows. Education is not just a tool for growth. It is a shared responsibility."
The ceremony opened and continued between segments with musical performances by Jón Þór Sigmundsson, Edda María Jónsdóttir, and Isobel Líf Díaz — three musicians from the Borgarnes area who brought warmth and colour to the occasion.
The graduation took place at Hjálmaklettur at Menntaskóli Borgarfjarðar in Borgarnes on 13 June 2026, and was streamed live on the university's website. A full recording is available on YouTube.
