Taking an Innovative and STEAM Approach for a Transdisciplinary University
Taking an Innovative and STEAM Approach for a Transdisciplinary University
The objective of the project is to enhance transdisciplinarity at HEIs and to support students in developing their abilities to think divergently, creatively, and critically.
In higher education, teachers play a crucial role in imparting skills and knowledge to students and young researchers. The traditional approach to education involved distinct disciplines and subjects, but societal and scientific complexities require a change. The CT.Uni project aims to explore creativity, innovation, and a STEAM approach in higher education. It seeks to encourage transdisciplinary thinking among students, teachers, and management staff across disciplines, and to foster innovation and collaboration with external partners for a modern university. The overall objective is to enhance transdisciplinarity, promote creative thinking, and drive innovation in higher education.
In the process of education, teachers play the central role in imparting skills, competencies, knowledge, and international perspectives of young people. This is why teachers need to „gain excellent training and attractive perspectives for their professional development and remuneration”.
Universities often describe their mission as the creation and transmission of knowledge. For many years, these two processes took place within areas called “disciplines” or subjects. Traditionally, knowledge was developed within disciplines, and curricula organised within discipline-based departments. However, the complexity of societal and scientific problems has required a change in this approach.
The CT.Uni project is an opportunity to develop a collaborative meta-study as a comprehensive overview of what has been developed in higher education to identify the specific effectiveness of creativity and innovation and a wider STEAM approach. We seek to achieve this goal by supporting students, teachers and also management staff in going beyond the boundaries of a specific area of study or discipline by stimulating their divergent, creative, and transdisciplinary thinking. Such a transdisciplinary approach can be used as a mechanism to drive innovation within higher education.
