Academic Council

The Academic Council of Bifröst University consists of the Vice-Rector, department heads and one student representative (elected by students of the University along with an alternate member). The Vice-Rector calls and chairs meetings of the Academic Council.

Decisions of the Academic Council may be appealed to the University Council.

Responsibilities

The Academic Council addresses academic policy-making and development at the University and makes recommendations to the University Council in these matters. The Academic Council also makes decisions regarding the content of study programmes and individual courses. The Academic Council has the responsibility to ensure that teachers and other staff members abide by and enforce University rules and meet professional requirements established within the University.

The Academic Council discusses applications and makes recommendations to the Rector on the appointment of permanent members of the teaching staff and to the Vice-Rector on the appointment of sessional lecturers.

The Academic Council discusses uncertainties concerning admission to the University, appeals concerning assessment of studies, the format of examinations or other matters involving enforcement of University rules not directly under the jurisdiction of the University Council.
