Bifröst University uses Gegnir, Iceland’s national library catalogue system, which can be searched online and is fully open to all Internet users. Library holdings and electronic resources to which Bifröst University subscribes can also be searched on Leitir.is.
Leitir.is is based on Primo Central Index that offers streamlined search in both print and e-based scholary material.
When searching for material on Leitir.is, you can either search everthing or limit your search by clicking on "Library Search" and choose Universities. Then you can choose Háskólinn á Bifröst from the dropdown menu in the search area. This will limit your results to books held at Bifröst University library and give you online access to additional material in databases such as JSTOR to which the University is a subscriber.
Instructions for using the Leitir.is catalog
When you are issued a library card at Bifröst University, a personal account on Leitir.is will be automatically created for you. This account will allow you to access your loans at the university library, renew/reserve materials and request interlibrary loans (ILL/DD). You can also save your searches in folders in your Account and place material on your e-shelf.
To log into your personal account on Leitir.is, you will need an ID number (kennitala) and password. You will receive a password at the same time as your library card is issued. If you forget your password, contact the librarian at email@example.com. You can use the same username and password for both Leitir.is and Gegnir.is.
Gegnir is the national library catalogue with information on most of the collections of Iceland’s libraries. If you want to limit your search to browsing thesaurus or authors it is better to use Gegnir as it gives you more possibilities of limiting searches.
In general, Gegnir does not include information on electronic periodicals and other online materials. If you are searching for online content to which students at Bifröst University have access, we recommend you use the Leitir.is website instead.
You will find theses and dissertations when searching the library catalog. But they are preserved in the Open access repository Skemman and you can search there as well. Theses that are not available as fulltext documents in Skemman, can not be borrowed. Neither can they be photocopied without a written consent from the author.
