Your accommodation request will be processed by the Student Housing Authority and will be confirmed a few weeks before your arrival. If you require a housing certificate to apply for a visa or residence permit, indicate this in the student exchange application form (if you are an exchange student) or make a note on the housing application form (if you are applying for regular studies).
Students arriving to Bifröst can either sign the rental contract in the University Office between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. or by arrangement with the Housing Coordinator.
Regular students are encouraged to transfer their legal residence to Bifröst, as this carries benefits for all students, especially families who intend to apply for a place in school or kindergarten for their children. Insurance companies have also offered lower premiums for automobile insurance.
It is possible to register oneself at the legal address Bifröst nemendabústaðir. This is especially intended for students who will be moving between single-person apartments during their studies. Students who choose to do so can apply for a post-office box at the University Office.
If you will be bringing your own bed(s), be sure to notify us ahead of time in an email to email@example.com. Students using their own beds must agree to return the original bed to the apartment when moving out (call 695-9908 to make arrangements).
After signing your rental contract and receiving your key, we kindly ask that you do a thorough check of your apartment/room. If something is damaged/broken (or otherwise in need of repair), please send a maintenance request within 24 hours. In the event that the apartment/room has not been properly cleaned, please notify us by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) within 24 hours.
Students renting furnished rooms/apartments are kindly requested to review the checklist of furniture and kitchen equipment to ensure that nothing is missing. Make a list of any missing items and send it to us by email at email@example.com, specifying your room/apartment number.
You will receive email notification when the required items are ready for pick-up.
Apartments/rooms are generally rented for a fixed period. To end the rental agreement before the date specified in the rental contract, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to specify your name, apartment/room(including number) and date of departure. Under the terms of the rental agreement, you must give one month’s notice (starting from the 1st of each month). Example: if you notify the Housing Division in mid-November that you wish to terminate the contract, you will pay the full rent for December but not January.
Tenants have 1–2 days when moving between studio apartments and 3–4 days when moving between larger family apartments.
All tenants must clean the premises thoroughly before leaving and arrange for a cleaning inspection. To schedule an inspection, contact us at 695-8908 before 11:00 a.m. Inspections take place during regular working hours in the presence of the tenant (or tenant’s representative).
Rooms or apartments are not considered to have been vacated until an inspection of the premises has taken place; this includes common areas where applicable.
Students will be charged for any damages to the rental property, missing/damaged furnishings and kitchenware and any extra cleaning required (if improperly cleaned), as per the service pricelist. If linen or towels are missing or destroyed after study weekends, the person responsible for the room will be billed.
