Dr. Rosemont stundaði nám í heimspeki og sagnfræði við Illinois háskóla
(A.B. 1962), heimspeki við Washington háskóla (Ph.D 1967) og lagði síðan
stund á málvísindi undir handleiðslu Noams Chomsky við Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (1969-71).
Hann er höfundur, ritstjóri og þýðandi fjölmargra verka um kínverska hugsun
og heimspeki, þ.á.m. A Chinese Mirror (1991), The Analects of Confucius: A
Philosophical Translation (ásamt Roger T. Ames, 1998), Rationality and
Religious Experience (2001) og Radical Confucianism (væntanleg 2007), og
hefur fengið birtar yfir 70 greinar á sama sviði. Ennfremur er hann virkur
penni á sviði stjórnmála og hefur skrifað fyrir tímarit á borð við Z
Magazine, The Raven, In These Times, Social Anarchist og The Resist
Newsletter.
Dr. Rosemont hefur um árabil setið í ritstjórn tímaritanna Philosophy East &
West, Modern China, Journal of the American Academy of Religion,
Contemporary Chinese Thought og Religion East & West. Hann var stofnfélagi Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy og formaður félagsins á árunum 1976-78. Hann er nú Distinguished Visiting Professor í Austur-Asíu- og trúarbragðafræðum við Brown háskóla, George B. and Willma Reeves Distinguished Professor of the Liberal Arts Emeritus við St. Mary’s College of Maryland og Senior Consulting Professor við Fudan háskóla í Shanghai.
“The U.S. and China. Who Threatens Who?”
This lecture elaborates, in economic, military and political terms, the
answers given below to the four questions that are its focus:
1) Many Americans perceive China as an economic and/or military threat to
their security; is this perception accurate? For the most part, no.
2) Many Chinese perceive the U.S. as an economic and/or military threat to
their security; is this perception accurate? For the most part, yes.
3) What is the greatest threat facing China today? China.
4) What is the greatest threat facing the U.S. today? The U.S.
