How to register your computer on the Bifrost Network

1. First you connect to the wireless network called Gestir. You can connect to it inside the University. Gestir means Guests, and it´s an open network to use for basic browsing only, and does not require any username or password. Please do not save this network in your computer.

2. To the registration webpage.

http://www.bifrost.is/islenska/thjonusta/tolvuthjonusta/  is where you register the Physical addresses you just aquired . You have to log in ( with your username and password from Namskjar ) and choose the link beneath „Skráning Mac addressu“. It will lead you to the webpage where your Physical Address should be in the upper and smaller window . If your Physical address does not appear in the registration window after you log in, you will need to type it in. And then you just hit the „Skrá tölvu“ button. If you get an error message, just hit F5 tap on your keyboard to refresh. Just remember, you will have to register both your wireless and Local Area adapters. Please note, that you can finish this registration where ever you are, also abroad before you travel to Iceland.

3. Finding the Mac Address ( Physical Address ) of the network card.

To find the Physical Address, you go to START/RUN (in Windows XP) or START/SEARCH (in Windows Vista/Windows7), write CMD and hit ENTER. In the Command Prompt window that pops up, you write IPCONFIG/ALL and hit ENTER again. Then you can read out your Physical Address for both your Local Area Network adapter and your Wireless Lan adapter ( Please note, that each network adapter has it´s own Physical Address, and both of them need to be registered), and it will look something like this: ( this example is for a Wireless Lan adapter )

The red numbers, are the ones you register. Now you should have all the information needed to register your network adapters. And then you go...

The registration will be active after the next hour mark. Then you need to disconnect from the Wireless network Gestir and Connect to the Wireless network Nemendur ( which stands for Students ) and is only accessable after the above registration.
