In July 2009 a new advanced educational program will be available at Bifröst University Faculty of Law, a course for an LL.M degree in European business and corporate law. The program consists of 90 credits (ECTS) and is especially targeted at lawyers and attorneys at law with experience in the field, but wish to strengthen their position and specialise in European Law. The LL.M degree is organized as a part time program so that students can attend it alongside work. All courses will be in English.
The program starts with a 4 week summer semester on campus in July. The fall and spring semesters will be in the form of distance learning, with two on-campus weekend workshops. The second 4 week summer semester will also be on campus and then students will write a LL.M dissertation worth 30 credits (ECTS).
Increased globalization, alongside Iceland’s participation in Europe’s inner markets through the EEA agreement, has resulted in an ever increasing demand for knowledge and specialization in European law and regulatory systems from lawyers and other specialists in the private and public sectors. Basic knowledge of the EU and its legal framework has become a necessity in this environment, but an advanced degree in European business and social law will give an undisputed competitive advantage in the field.
The LL.M degree is an internationally recognised postgraduate degree and is obtained by completing a minimum of 15 month program. The basic condition for entrance is a B.A. or B.S. degree in law, business law or other comparable education. The deadline for applications is July 15, 2009.
