Multiculturalism and Toleration - conference June 19th
A conference on multiculturalism and toleration will be held at Bifröst University, Friday June 19th. The conference starts at 13.00 in Hrifla and is open to the public.
Discussants are Jón Ólafsson, professor and Njörður Sigurjónsson, assistant professor at Bifröst University, Lars Binderup from Syddansk University, Brenda Schaffer University of Haifa and Haukur Ingi Jónasson University of Iceland.
The following will be discussed:
Toleration is central to Democracy – it is a necessary condition of deliberation which aims at finding the best solutions to common questions.
What kind of agreement must precede toleration?
Is it enough to agree to disagree or does toleration require extensive shared value commitments?
Is toleration possible in a multiculturally composed society?
